Winter Happenings 2011/12

The Fireflies have an active social calendar for the winter, even though we do not hold regular meetings. In November we will attend the Caledon Little Theatre dinner and play. In December we have our annual Christmas lunch at the Mandarin followed by a get-together at  our president’s home. In January we will go to the movies in Milton and have dinner afterwards at Boston Pizza. February will bring a pot luck and card night at Bill and Karen’s and in March a movie afternoon and pot luck at MJ’s. The races at Grand River in Elora is in the plans for April.

If any of this sounds like fun and you are a camper or a potential camper who would like to join us for any or all of our activities please contact us, we would love to hear from you.

Nicolston Dam Once again-2011

The Fireflies descended on our favourite camping spot again the weekend of August 5th, with most of us arriving on Thursday the 4th to really stretch our weekend out. There were some 26 trailers who partook of our club’s annual Family and Friends campout. We were surprised to find that a bunch of the Mississauga Lamplighters club had also discovered our spot and 9 trailers had been camping ahead of us for the full week and more. Nicolston is no longer a well-kept secret!
Again, it was the weekend of the Alliston Potato Festival and a good percentage of the group headed downtown for the friday night parade. It is always jam-packed and you need to stake out a spot early. Saturday’s street sale was fun too and Mirella was disappointed to find that even the bags of potatoes sold out before she got hers! How can that be?
This year the barbecue dinner that is always planned and hosted by the gentle men of our club, cooked up steak AND chicken, along with corn on the cob, baked potatoes, the every-present BEANS and pie and ice cream for dessert. How could anyone pass up this campout???
The weather was almost perfect and we enjoyed campfires every evening and lots of singing and music. Great time-cannot wait for next year!

Canada Day Birthday Campout 2011

Another successful Fireflies campout has come and gone. Thankfully we had mostly nice weather with only a few sprinkles of rain. It did not daunt our golfers who were sheltered by the tree lined mini-golf course.

Again we were entertained during our hospitality evening  by a great group of guys-pictures attached and most everyone stayed till the end to chat and listen to the music. We celebrated Canada in grand style with  red and white themed decor in the hall and lots of red shirts and hats.

To everyone who came out to our annual campout, we give a big THANK YOU and hope that next year will be even better, though how to improve on the guys, Home Made To Order Breakfast is beyond me!
